Bakes By Her is a new and upcoming baking business located in Melbourne, providing you with delicious, unique and gorgeous cakes for any occasion. Owner, baker, and founder of the business, Helena, created it only just over a month and a half old and is slowly growing to hopefully become bigger and better than it is now. By providing custom cakes and so much more, Bakes By Her is able to create anything and almost everything that clients desire.
When starting out, Helena’s initial goal was to show people the love behind Bakes By Her. Being a self-taught baker, everything is like a stepping stone from learning something new, a new skill and with every mistake, something new is learned. By being able to give people so much joy in their own celebrations, it is nice to be a part of other celebrations. She expresses creativity through their work as it has always been a part of the beginnings and with help from family and friends, they were a huge encouragement to be able to put thoughts into practice.
With so many new businesses popping up every day and with the competition becoming more, especially on Instagram, it’s those that stand out and are different that really take it far. To start out, for the name to get around, it was more through word of mouth in the local area and through family and friends, now with expanding the audience through Instagram, Bakes By Her is able to reach a wider audience who would be interested in the baked goods.
A huge audience would be amazing for Helena because everyone loves cake and has celebrations with different desert needs so Bakes By Her would like to be able to cater to that. So that would be the main market Bakes By Her aims towards, being anyone and everyone who absolutely loves cake. Through love and passion for the baking process and the end result, Helena aims to cater to everyone’s needs. At the moment, the feed on Instagram is very colorful, fun and vibrant, perfect for a children’s birthday but there is also the joy in making an elegant, floral and more classical cake for weddings for example.
What tips would you give to someone who is starting their own business?
“Just keep going, you have nothing to lose, if you are passionate about something and it brings you joy and you lose track of time when you’re doing it and it feels right, then it most likely is. So just keep going and put all your time and energy into it if you can and you will be surprised by the support you can get back from that”
When someone buys from Bakes By Her, there is an element of passion, joy, and celebration associated with each of the cakes. With the cakes, Bakes By Her goes above and beyond in the creations in order to make the perfect cake for someone knowing that it was exactly what they wanted and expected. By enabling this and providing this custom service, you can just tell through the images alone that a lot of time and effort goes into every order. From previous experiences for Helena, before starting Bakes By Her, she knows that when it comes to buying and ordering cakes for an event or celebration, it can be super overwhelming with many options and with the chance that people may not get exactly what they want. With Bakes By Her, she is very open and honest with every customer, ensuring quality with the cakes, to getting what they want and knowing that the customer experience is at the core of the business.
Moving forward with the customer experience, what Helena hopes to achieve in a way that makes them different and unique is the way that the customer is treated, the interaction they have and the whole experience as a whole. By providing this personalization and customer service, there is time for the customer to be a part of the process so that their day Is made better through the cake. By having a history of creating an understanding of meaningful customer experiences, this has allowed for the highlighted importance for that interaction and for the success of a sale and the importance that we are all people and with the business, they hope to be relatable and kind. This would be the main reason as to why people keep coming back because of the experience that they had the last time.
Everyone always remembers their first time baking, whether it be brownies, cookies or a crumble. Helena started out the same, and now with Bakes By Her, business is up and running and now, it’s different but in a good way. Baking is like art, and for Helena, it had been another source of inspiration. Over the next couple of years, it would be amazing for Bakes By Her to be able to bake in a commercial kitchen and make this become full time but at the moment, the goal is to expand the customer base of the business and get the name out there. There is always something new and different to create and if the opportunity arises in the future to be involved in big events, corporate and wedding venues, then it would not be passed down.
The one thing that Helena loves about the business, they love to see the end result and how the cakes that are baked specifically for them, make them feel. By having customers come and pick up the orders, just by seeing the look on their faces is then when they know that the job has been done right. Baking for them feels quite comfortable and imaginative as there is always something new to create that hasn’t yet been thought of. Bakes By Her is still a growing baking company that hopes to one day, gain an even higher reputation and that it will lead to something greater than what is imagined now.

I would describe Bakes By Her as creative, sweet and made with love
